Waiter, some bravas!
‘Patatas bravas’ are one of the most traditional and popular tapas outside of Spain. The reason for such success lies in the potatoes, cut into small irregular pieces and then fried in olive oil until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, but above all in the sauce that accompanies them: salsa brava, with as many versions as there are cooks. With onion, flour, sauce and red pepper, but without tomato; with tomato sauce and chilli, or; even in its less orthodox version, with mayonnaise, ketchup and Tabasco, the fact is that salsa brava is, first of all, a hot sauce. Dalí’s tiny bay
It is hard to imagine such a small village, it might even look like a toy. Port Lligat is a tiny port and as many houses as you can count at a glimpse. All right. Or maybe everything is a scene mixing surrealism with the Mediterranean, for Dalí obviously left his deep influence here. The painter lived with his muse Gala in this village on the Costa Brava for many years. They arrived one day in the spring of 1930. They built a house in the hidden bay and lived there until he died. The Dalí Figueres created and the Figueres that created Dalí
The Ampurdan town of Figueres (Gerona) gave life to Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), and in reward, Dalí gave life to Figueres. The favour is returned. A stroll through this town in the far northeast of Catalonia, at the heart of the Costa Brava, is itself a tribute to the international master of surrealism, who lived his childhood, adolescence and his last days there.
