Jen and Laia want to get married. They know they don’t have to, that their families are not pressing them and even recognise that maybe it is something that has gone rather out of fashion. “But we want to celebrate our love and obviously too, this achievement that has taken so long to come”, say these two 30-year old women who have been together for a year and want to formalise their relationship. For the time being, they are thinking of dates and looking for a home, but when they are joined in matrimony they will add to the more than 20,000 gay couples that have married since the law was passed in 2005 allowing marriages between people of the same sex.
Laia and Jen want a celebration with all the trimmings, and this is something that Colombina and Irene, a photography stylist and an expert in protocol, know a lot about as the owners of the business specialised in gay weddings.
This thing about leaving the whole organisation of a wedding in someone's hands is not very widespread yet in Spain, but what with the rush, the stress, the lack of time and the difficulty of adapting to a budget when you're going to get married, it is likely to become habitual very soon. And this is what Colombina and Irene do; they deal with every one of the details of a marriage: the place, the readings, the music, the clothes, the journeys, the guest organisation… Right down to the honeymoon!
Spain has become one of the most popular destinations for holding ceremonies of this kind, and as thanks to technology there are no longer any problems of communication, the couple can turn up just a couple of days before their wedding and simply enjoy the event that has been organised for them and their families. The good weather and the abundance of the most spectacular places make Spain a perfect place to find a villa, a castle or perfect natural surroundings to set up the event which, in the case of this company, will be exclusive and luxury.
